Our History and Missions

“Dagestan State Medical University” is enriched with a strong renowned history. Founded in 1932, it has been more than 90 years since the university was established – is now an university with a unique history and a glorious tradition. This is located in the heart of the “Republic of Dagestan”, where the beautiful Caspian Sea meets a stunning mountainous range. Initially, Dagestan State Medical Institute had a limited theoretical and clinical base and the only department of general medicine. The university began the course with 150 students, but now the university has a profound medical faculty and talented medical professors and scientists.

For over nine decades, the university has been training generations of medical students. Moreover, the university’s history is rooted in the Great Patriotic War, despite facing wartime hardships and numerous challenges came out stronger than ever. But all this, time working with extra dedication and increasing its glory.

The foremost development of the institute was brought in 1970th-1980th. In the same year, the institute introduced morphological body, laboratory facilities, teaching institute and a number of essential facilities. The “Clinical Hospital” was elevated to a standard of excellence and opening of dental and pediatric institutes were opened.

Dagestan State Medical University has a qualified teaching staff and professionals. If we talk about the heads of the various departments in the institute then they are headed by professors who are institute graduates. With the continuance of service over the past years Dagestan State Medical University has become a prestigious medical school. More than 27,000 doctors who work in all parts of Russia, and hold political office have graduated from the university.

Many students who have graduated from the university are working far beyond the borders of the republic. DSMU is keen to work honestly for years to fulfill their medical obligations. The constant contribution and their part of sharing knowledge and ability to solve people’s health problems and promotion of good overall health of humanity, and work to constantly improve their skills, and keep gratitude to their teachers.
